On the afternoon of March 24, Director Zhang Hongyu and Dr. Li Zhenhai from the Hematology Department of Peking University Shenzhen Hospital visited Shenzhen Cell Valley Biopharmaceutical Co., Ltd. for exchange. Chief Scientist Professor Wang Jianxun and Deputy Head of R&D Sun Rui extended a warm welcome and held discussions on establishing preclinical research collaboration on disease pathogenesis.

During the symposium, Professor Wang Jianxun introduced Shenzhen Cell Valley's main pipelines and primary research directions to Director Zhang Hongyu's team. Professor Wang shared his background, noting that he focused on epigenetics research during his doctoral studies, later entered the cell immunotherapy industry in the United States, and subsequently assembled an outstanding technical R&D and industrialization team in China with extensive GMP production experience. The two parties then conducted an in-depth analysis of the prospects and current challenges of CAR-T cell immunotherapy for cancer treatment. They also engaged in detailed discussions and exchanges on technical issues related to the pathogenesis and treatment strategies of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-induced tumors.

Subsequently, Professor Wang Jianxun accompanied Director Zhang Hongyu and Dr. Li Zhenhai on a tour of the laboratories, providing a detailed introduction. Both parties expressed their willingness to establish in-depth scientific research collaboration in areas such as T-cell epigenetics and cellular immunotherapy, closely integrating scientific research with clinical practice—applying it to clinical settings and serving clinical needs—and contributing to the advancement of cell therapy.

Since its opening in 1999, Peking University Shenzhen Hospital has rapidly grown into a high-level hospital construction unit in Guangdong Province. It has carried out a number of world-leading frontier technologies, significantly enhancing its capacity to treat complex and critical diseases.

By the end of 2021, Peking University Shenzhen Hospital had cumulatively conducted over 60 clinical studies on CAR-T cell therapy for hematological malignancies. In April 2019, the hematology team at Peking University Shenzhen Hospital launched an immune cell therapy clinical trial—chimeric antigen receptor T-cell immunotherapy (CAR-T)—for a critically ill patient with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. In just 28 days, the "reprogrammed" CAR-T cells completely eliminated the tumor cells in the patient's body. This was the world's first case of successfully reversing cutaneous T-cell lymphoma using CAR-T cell immunotherapy.

In addition, the hospital achieved the world's first one-time cure of a patient simultaneously suffering from B-cell lymphoma and lupus erythematosus using CAR-T technology. In 2021, it conducted clinical research on TCR-T cell therapy for advanced pancreatic cancer, during which the patient's tumor was completely eliminated and the patient returned to playing sports. This was the first successful domestic case of TCR-T cell therapy for a solid tumor.
